Coyotes took carrion from young Condors and then killed the weakest ones. Osborn gives story after story of having to “haze” young condors away from admiring crowds and off cliff sites accessible to coyotes (it seems that running and yelling at the top of your lungs is a job requirement).

On Wipeout and Lion Burgers

Finally, in my e-mailbox this morning, and probably in yours, was the Care2 newsletter, including a link to a column about a restaurant in Arizona that will soon serve burgers made from lion meat. Have you seen the ridiculous television show, Wipeout ? It does get old, however, after about 10 minutes.

Mexican Hummingbirds

Male Costa’s at Playa Coyote. Similar to the White-eared Hummingbird that is occasionally seen in Arizona, its white eyebrow is slightly less prominent. Last summer, such a plant bloomed near Playa Coyote, near the Cerralvo Channel of the Sea of Cortez. Female Costa’s Hummingbird in a Cardon Cactus bloom.
