I rescued a baby squirrel a few years back that fell out of its nest and my mom told me they will bite you. I told my mom thats because there raised in the wild but if you raise them with hugs and kisses all they will know is comfort!

Back in the halcyon days, when dinosaurs still roamed the Earth (at least in my mind) and a nickel was still a lot of money, my favourite ride was the river safari one, where you could pretend to be an explorer in a river boat going past animatronic safari animals. For those of you that have never been to Lassen Volcanic National Park, I thought I would post some photos I have taken inside the park of some of the bird and animal species we may encounter during our annual campout. American Coots ( Fulica americana ) raise their young at the park also. She is in a snag, at least forty feet up!

There are many examples in the animal world of pack behavior. I have never been one to advocate the needless killing of animals for whatever purpose. Over the last two weeks, we raised our faces and sniffed. I wondered, last August, how animals endure it — the tiny ever-pumping lungs of hummingbirds, the lungs of bighorn sheep shouldering their way up mountains, they must get filled with smoke too, right? For us here in the valley, though, at least it cleared the air.

There’s a Three-striped Palm Squirrel by the side of the track, while Jungle Bush Quails are running across it in front of our Maruti Gypsy, almost the official safari vehicle of India. The closer one raises her head, than lies back. Telia yawns, raises and sprays her urine on a dead tree stump, marking her territory.
