Even better, just a few meters away from the food vendors, it is not too crowded, and the palm trees attract a number of birds, including two species of parrots. The first one is the Blue-naped Parrot. That is mainly the Philippines, as indicated by the species name lucionensis (Luzon is the Philippines’ biggest island).

We can say with much certainty that the majority of people admire and are fascinated with the resplendent colors of macaws, parrots, toucans and hummingbirds. In the Far East they keep birds of prey which they use to capture other animals such as foxes and rabbits. What can we do while species disappear from the planet each year?

Big, bold, beautiful parrots full of character and charm, macaws make us long for some of the world’s wildest places and assure us that, as long as they fly free, those magical wild places are still intact. Such cavities are hard to find and are sometimes disputed by more than one species. Who doesn’t love a macaw?

Birds of the Indonesian Archipelago covers 1,417 species, 601 endemics, 98 vagrants, 8 introduced and 18 undescribed species. Only one bird species has become extinct (Javan Lapwing), but many others are endangered, with some considered close to extinction (not surprising in an area with species restricted to one or two small islands).
