I bet you didn't realize that Obama had any animal welfare picks, but he did. He has a strong environmental record and he has supported some animal issues in the past. HSUS is also happy about Lisa Jackson heading the EPA. And, in general, the Humane Society and its Legislative Fund likes them.

A couple of years ago I wrote about whether it's a good use of my time to be a purist about the term "animal rights" when most of the world doesn't have the same understanding of the term as I do. would call HSUS an animal rights group (after all, HSUS doesn't even do that).

Elizabeth Parker , the "chair man " (my emphasis) of the Animal Agriculture Alliance at CattleNetwork, which apparently is "The Source for Cattle News." If any "drastic measures" are employed, they are to remove animals from suffering, not to impose our dietary choices on others. I wish their mission was to end animal agriculture.

I don't care if they're supposedly working for altruistic purposes (they're not, but that's another story), they are allowing animals to suffer through negligent care separate from the excruciating experiments they must still undergo. The improperly euthanized animals remained alive but were discarded as if they were dead.

Another nasty farm animal abuse story. Bottom line: If you’re running a business where you allow the kinds of shortcuts that let animal abuse happen, please sell it and leave the industry now. If you’re caught by PETA or HSUS, please do not plead ignorance and vow to clean it up. Overlooked this one. Find another line of work.
