In The Last of Us video game, there are two scenes where they show exotic animals surviving in the North American climate. The monkeys made sense; many species of apes and monkeys are adaptable to many climates and are similar to humans in terms of anatomy. The giraffes did not.

People have moved useful plants and animals around with them as long as they had the wit to do so. They took dogs to Australia, chickens across the Pacific, rabbits to England, horses to the New World, and then brought potatoes back. There were no mammals, little game, and not many birds either.
