These experiences were the highlight of my trip to Ethiopia and one of the most fascinating and enjoyable encounters I have ever had the privilege to experience in many years of wildlife watching. Especially in the dry season, bands join together forming grazing herds, which can number up to 1,200 animals (although 500-600 is more normal.)

The Sperm Whale is the fourth largest whale, and the largest toothed whale (and animal) in the world. As we shot out into the ocean we received a lecture on the Kaikoura Canyon, its wildlife and the Sperm Whale from Hayley, a local girl who was our guide. The star of Kaikoura is the Sperm Whale , ( Physeter macrocephalus ).

The definition of the word HUNT is “to chase or search for game or other wild animals for the purpose of catching or killing.” ” Obviously the dictionary does not equate hunting with conservation. People don’t respect wildlife. Some people actually don’t consider human beings as animals.
