It hasn't been the best experience. Whenever it tries to get near me I would stomp my foot on the ground to get it away, or sometimes I would have to chase him away out of the house when I would be having a peaceful meal or cooking food and he would try different ways to eat my food. Now the story.

And four long years later he said: "The only reason I still eat animals is because you keep buying them and cooking them for me."

I printed pages of information about petting zoos from the Internet, mostly about health risks but also about animal treatment. Of course none of them come close to the most important reason for my objection: that we have no right to use animals for entertainment or other reasons that are not necessary. Did I accomplish anything?

Though I have never had an issue with gluten, I have decided to lower my intake of it as an experiment, just to see if I feel any kind of difference. In fact, I'm going to make either cookies or scones later today because I cooked way, way too many black-eyed peas and I don't want them to go to waste. I may never use flour again.

So we took a break from the Betta Experiment because, honestly, I was getting tired of digging fishy graves for them and writing fishy eulogies. I kept him in the kitchen, between the cutting board and the kitchen sink, and I began to look forward to spending time with my friend each evening as I cooked dinner. And then came Fighter.

Knowledge is more likely to be shared via shared experience than the exchange of data, though both happen. Experiments had been done which involved strapping magnets to the heads of homing pigeons to see if you could confuse them. I was also eventually to learn that Efe do not have an uncanny built in sense of direction.
