Today we view the Galapagos birds, including some finches and some mocking birds, as a great example of evolution. However, this is not the case with the Galapagos Tortoises.

They are not necessarily the biggest African animals, but represented those that were considered a real hunter’s worthy prey or “game” – the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhinoceros, Leopard and king of the jungle, the Lion (which of course doesn’t inhabit jungle but savanna!).

They are software mascots, cartoon characters, animated film dancers, children’s book heroes, zoo celebrities, and documentary film stars. Fortunately, the authors’ website, Roving Tortoise Photos , gives attribution for 55 photos from this book, so I can say that all three authors are indeed incredible photographers.
