Around 12 million animals are used each year in the European Union (EU) for research purposes. This became clear from a report addressed at the European Parliament (EP) session on May 5–7, which seeks to vote on a directive concerning animal research. I really hope this passes.

They are considered an environmental pest because they are a non-native species that inflict ecological damage.but to deal with them this way is just unacceptable. These highly intelligent animals should be PERMANENTLY retired and a PERMANENT sanctuary created for them. This is a matter of human compassion to prevent the further suffering of animals that have already served this species in prior experiments. It's a site that, according to its own description, is half reader blogs and half press releases from research institutions. The EU's executive Commission last year proposed a range of measures to improve the welfare of the 12 million vertebrate animals used in experiments each year, mostly mice and rats. Drug industry group EFPIA said the parliament had managed to balance the protection of animals, the reality of biomedical research, and the needs of patients.
