And I really would have like to know what happens to that land when the industry goes. Although lip service was paid to the fact that lions are endangered and a lion was poached, the language of anger was the language of animals rights. This is of course an anathema for many in the animal rights camp. To a point.

Elizabeth Parker , the "chair man " (my emphasis) of the Animal Agriculture Alliance at CattleNetwork, which apparently is "The Source for Cattle News." Perhaps it is the industry's inability to evolve morally that is behind the times. Besides, is the "modern" veal crate something to be proud of?

I foresee a day, perhaps not far in the future, in which it is illegal to raise cows, pigs, and other animals for food. The ground for this will not be animal welfare, as you might expect, but environmentalism. Individual animals, qua sentient beings, have intrinsic value.

I will address two of them in the new year, namely, “Is hunting moral at all?” In the past I have attributed some of this conflict to differences between the conservation mindset and that of animal rights/animal welfare.
