Road birding along India’s main roads is surprisingly productive, but here, where there are no power lines or fences and even the barest impression of a road, there was little to see. It wasn’t that long ago that Sociable Lapwing was considered a critically endangered species with a population of only around 1500.

There was a lot of hunting for Bald Eagles—it is traditionally a game species. Yes, they have been an endangered species for as long as most of us can recall, but remember, they were traditionally a hunted species. There was a bounty on them in Alaska from 1917 until 1952—up to $2 a head! young per year.
