From the American Bird Conservancy : The mayor of Albuquerque and the director of the city’s animal welfare department have been named in a lawsuit alleging that the officials have committed animal cruelty by allowing certain illegal and improper animal management practices to occur related to abandonment of stray cats.

Our next stop was another mutually agreed upon stop, Albuquerque New Mexico. Jeanne has long desired top photograph the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Fiestas ( You can see her photos here )and I wanted to visit the Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge. This was a first! eBird.org submissions – 307. US species – 234.

In the past, seeing some of these Ring-necked Ducks would have been rather scarce, so here is a shot of the small group that were on the larger pond. The largest group of ducks turned out to be the Ruddy Ducks, with well over 200 in three or four large rafts. It was gone so quickly, there was no chance to get a photo.
