These Black-legged and Red-legged Kittiwakes only need to fear gulls and Peregrine Falcons , although bad weather and erosion do take their toll on nests. Buldir Island, AK.

That is a big difference compared to the 2,000+ singing males detected in 2012, well above the recovery goal for this species set by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This male Short-tailed Albatross has fledged 2 chicks from Eastern Island, Midway Atoll, the only place in the U.S. this species breeds.

but I really feel I should nominate an albatross, if only because I love taunting Corey about them. Only trouble is, which of the seven species I saw this year do I pick? Black-browed Albatross by Duncan Wright (Click it to make it big.). Dragan had a real stunner for his Best Bird of the Year!
