The African Spoonbill is one of the six global spoonbill species, and the main African one (there are also some Eurasian Spoonbills in Africa). Thanks to their friendly and calm personality, they don’t have a need to express themselves vocally like some other parrot species. They are great for apartment settings.

It was not a flycatcher at all, but an exotic (and equally bizarre) from Africa, which certainly escaped from someone’s cage or perhaps even migrated from the small breeding population of escapees in southern California. I know birders just as well as I know birds, and I was not ready to put all my faith in this fantastic sighting.
