This is a recent split, for when I last visited Cyprus in 2018 the two were considered conspecific. Though it has spread naturally, Anders Gray from BirdLife Cyprus told me that it’s numbers had been boosted by releases of captive-bred birds by hunters. One September I watched a pack of seven Eleonora’s hunting a juvenile Swift.

Administrative Procedure for Birders: Duck Stamp Rulemaking

Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) recently sought public comments on its proposal to permanently add a hunting element to the Duck Stamp art competition. For example, Congress passed the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act in 1934, but it did not mandate specific rules for a Duck Stamp Competition.

Duck Stamps and the Best National Wildlife Refuges for Birding

The argument is straightforward: birders (and others, including hunters) buy stamps and the federal government turns around and obtains important bird habitat.
