When I was a new birder, I adopted Pillar Point Harbor near Half Moon Bay as a “patch.”. The evening of September 7, 2012 was a truly memorable birding experience. Patch birding is rewarding because the birds become familiar, as do the changes across the seasons. There is satisfaction in the everyday.

Rock & Rawhide , a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that aims to increase adoptions for dogs and cats in shelters by providing toys and other items that serve as a form of distraction therapy, reducing the stress and noise levels. Research has shown that if noise and stress are reduced, adoptions go up!

Purina ONE® beyOnd® brand dog and cat food and GOOD have teamed up to host the Shine a Light on a Shelter challenge and award a $10,000 grant to an animal shelter doing great work. Starting on June 28, 2012, anyone can nominate at purina.maker.good.is. Nominations are accepted now through July 30, 2012. 6, 2012 through Aug.

It turns out that people are not the only ones, who can adopt children – animals are good at this as well. Especially it is associated with dogs, which may raise kids of other species and even of scary and dangerous representatives of wildlife! Puma rejected her children and they were given to Mary.
