Controversial Elephant Death at San Diego Zoo

An animal rights group has called for a federal investigation into the death of an elephant at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The Northern California-based In Defense of Animals called for the Department of Agriculture, which does inspections of zoos, to investigate Umoya's death.

Phoebe, Liam and I went down to work (and play) in January 2011 at the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival , and it was the highlight of our winter. Armed only with a cellphone camera, she walked right into the flock to take a photo, putting a big flock of skimmers up into the air. What an oddly proportioned bird!
