Obviously, Bald Eagles are a pretty big deal too. Those bigger birds of prey command respect, but it’s not like falcons are unknown. Even outside of Atlanta , Peregrine Falcons spend their breeding seasons smiling for the ( web ) camera from atop edifices all across the country.

The best birds of my weekend were Seahawks, Eagles, Falcons, Cardinals, And Ravens. There was the White Ibis in New Jersey , the Caspian Tern , the Buff-bellied Sandpiper , another White Ibis , this one in New York’s Orange County, a Bald Eagle , and a host of other birds.

Bald Eagle, Head Portraits, Birds of Prey of the East. Bald Eagle has been moved next to Golden Eagle. Vultures, Northern Harrier, Osprey, some of the Kites, and Falcons, with their less complicated plumage age differences, don’t have separate plates for juvenile plumages, with the exception of Gyrfalcon.

The extra nice thing about his choice is that he saw it because of a 10,000 Birds post: In my planning to visit my daughter in Sleepy Hollow NY I checked out birding in the area and came across Corey’s excellent blog from June 2, 2011 about birding Rockefeller State Park Preserve. Not only did it fly in but it attacked a Bald Eagle!

The binding also appears to be strong; I’m able to open to Prairie Falcon in Colorado , pressing open the pages so they lie flat, without fear that I will crack the spine. On this final day of 2011 it is time, just like it was on the final day of 2010 , to share your Best Birds of the Year. Here, without further ado, are your Best Birds of 2011, in no particular order. The bird I picked as my Best Bird of the Year 2011 is the Yellow-rumped Warbler. It made its appearance on the Serengeti Plains.
