Counting Feral Muscovy Ducks in Florida

10,000 Birds

I wasn’t having any luck at all though I was enjoying the typical assortment of wetland species that make we New York birders a bit jealous of our southern compatriots. The birds in Florida, on the other hand, are of domestic stock gone feral. feral Muscovy Duck at Blue Heron Wetlands, Titusville, Florida.

The Collins Bird Guide, 3rd edition

10,000 Birds

The Collins Bird Guide 2nd edition from 2009 was a much hated taxonomical revolution/nightmare, changing just about everything. The section with vagrants has been expanded to accommodate more images and longer texts for several species. Duncan’s 2014 List

10,000 Birds

For Borneo I’ll be accepting the split endemic species listed in Myers (2009), some of which I think eBird could at least offer as subspecies options (I’d also welcome an eBird app that works). Species are listed by family according to the order eBird spits them out to me in. Indigo Flycatcher. COLUMBIDAE (PIGEONS).

Finally Saw-Whet

10,000 Birds

Every March, hope springs anew that I’ll cross paths with one of these feral fluffballs, but as April ends, so do another year’s delirious dreams. Driving along ice-choked inlets off Lake Ontario, admiring Mute Swans and scaup species, my commitment to nail this nemesis never wavered. Enjoy the details and proof here.
