Clearings around the house offer favourite grazing to small herds of Chital deer and a playground to Gray (or Hanuman) Langurs. One Nilgai – the largest of Asian antelopes and a few Sambar deer later, we hit a jackpot: there is one jackal-like animal sitting among the dry leaves!

The Great Bustard Search is On (1)

Yours truly counting birds in the Pastures of Great Bustard from the Russian made UAZ 4×4 in February 2008. In short grass, you do not know is it a Roe Deer or a Great Bustard, they are very similar in size. Yet, in the first years of this century, we had 35 birds, last year we had 10 and how many we have now remains to be seen.

The plovers of Estero Lagoon, Florida

We filmed these particular birds in early 2008 and this was when my videographer, Aderman, was still getting to grips with bird filming. I love the subtle colors of these birds and the way that they easily blend in with the sandy and dune landscapes that they inhabit. Wicked, right?
