In 2003, police in Warwickshire, England, opened a garden shed and found a whimpering, cowering dog. It had been locked in the shed and abandoned. We had two puppies that had been abandoned by a nearby railway line. I received this steadily for a month or two and still find it heartwarming. And one roe deer fawn.

After looking through every bar, we concluded that all had abandoned the ship without warning us.

The adults move to flocks, there may be two or three of them, that hang out mostly far off shore in the larger part of the lake, abandoning their embayments or otherwise protected areas. In any event, by mid summer or so, the babies are not so small and more or less do OK on their own and hang around the nest. Then one day they are gone.
