In 2003, police in Warwickshire, England, opened a garden shed and found a whimpering, cowering dog. It had been locked in the shed and abandoned. We had two puppies that had been abandoned by a nearby railway line. I received this steadily for a month or two and still find it heartwarming. And one roe deer fawn.

South Africa is their steward and have been declared Special Nature Reserves under the South African Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act in 2003, which restricts activities on the islands to research and conservation management. After looking through every bar, we concluded that all had abandoned the ship without warning us.

Second, it abandoned the standard format for field guides established by Roger Tory Peterson (who wrote the book’s Forward), succinct lists of field marks and arrows pointing them out, to engage in long paragraphs discussing how a hawk soaring above might be identified. Published in 1988, Hawks in Flight was unique for its time.

Since I first started hand-coding 10,000 Birds using Microsoft Frontpage in 2003 , we’ve seen all manner of technology (e.g., Many of us have neglected or outright abandoned our feed readers. In case you hadn’t noticed, blogging, both publishing and perusing , has transformed dramatically over the years.

The adults move to flocks, there may be two or three of them, that hang out mostly far off shore in the larger part of the lake, abandoning their embayments or otherwise protected areas. In any event, by mid summer or so, the babies are not so small and more or less do OK on their own and hang around the nest. Then one day they are gone.
