We had a blast, the family and I, and experienced some amazing natural places, to say nothing of the fine city of Seattle. I got sunburned, Desi suffered a nasty cut over his eye, and all three of us sneezed and sniffled and hacked and coughed with colds. The Lucky Diner on First Avenue in Seattle has delicious food.

Lilly Tomlin is in Seattle and spoke out about the conditions of elephants at the Woodland Park Zoo on behalf of the Northwest Animal Rights Network (NARN). Addressing supporters and the media at the Phinney Ridge Neighborhood Center, Tomlin said elephants in zoos across the country are suffering in confinement.

Now please understand, having lived on the Baja for eight years, and suffering thru 6 hurricanes, I would never wish one of these monsters on anybody. When word of this bird’s discovery came, I was up in Seattle for a Saturday wedding. This is the time of year for potential Hurricanes all along the eastern Pacific is at its highest.

I live in Seattle and, while I don't always agree with PETA, I hate the UW's animal research practices. I don't believe these animals get the quality of care they deserve for the suffering they undergo. You have to objectify them and they suffer for it. I'm glad PETA is drawing attention to this issue.

The animal protection group Seal Sitters says a necropsy showed that the sea lion had suffered a shark bite and had twisted intestines in addition to a bullet wound. The one found in West Seattle was a California sea lion, protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Investigators say they do not know who is responsible.

These birds certainly have a big fan in Alex Washoe, a freelance writer and bookseller in Seattle, WA. All through the cold, gray, wet Seattle winter, the chickadees were daily visitors at my feeders, often perching on the rails of my deck, hanging out in the cherry tree.
