Although it was partially hidden by the mist over the marsh, we could still see enough to count Rufescent Tiger-Heron. Our Rufescent Tiger-Heron. That title went to a team in Peru that identified 309 species, second place going to a team in Brazil with 307 species (check out the totals per country !).

So I lowered my threshold to 500 and that worked well… for Costa Rica and South America, that is (especially Peru). And for this overview, I will chose #1 and #2: Corbett and Kaziranga national parks, both in the north/north-east, right under the southern slopes of the Himalayas. The best season to visit is from November to March.

Water levels are right but the waders are still very scarce. Wicked, right? I suspect though that once we get past the Ides of March (beware!) we might have a shot at another spring. And isn’t that an inspiring thought? Though it is certainly bad news that the U.S. Hat-tip to Stella.
