Serendip Sanctuary, Victoria

You can easily get there via public transport by taking the train to Lara from either Geelong or Melbourne if you do not have access to a vehicle. Red-rumped Parrot Purple-crowned Lorikeet There were plenty of New Holland Honeyeaters feeding in the trees, but of course the closest one got to me was on a wire fence!

Hornsby Blue Gum Walk

On our trip to New South Wales in June we took the opportunity to return to one of the picturesque bush walks that is not too far from the city and easily reached by public transport. The train station at Hornsby is the start of the walk and there are shops nearby if you need supplies before you head off or on your return.

In search of Rock Warblers

Both Crimson Rosellas and Australian King Parrots stood out easily and many other birds did too! Their range is generally within 240 kilometres/150 miles of Sydney and you can access the areas quite easily by public transport. We then walked back to the train station and back to Katoomba to the walk back to our accommodation.

One Tree Hill-Dandenong Ranges National Park

Having established that there are regular trains from the city of Melbourne to the Dandenong Ranges National Park with a weekend all day train ticket capped at $6 per person it made sense to head that way once again. Once again this was a good birding trip on public transport to see some bush and the birds on offer around Melbourne.

Panama Trip Report: April 2017

TRANSPORTATION. Red-lored Parrot. Mealy Parrot. One along the train tracks near Summit Ponds. In fact, we saw two species of monkey, our only sloths, lots of coatis, and my rarest ever mammal sighting—a Jaguarundi —right on site. All in all, the Radisson Summit delivered what we all wanted. Yellow-headed Caracara.
