A large and striking bird like this would be hard to neglect in a museum collection. This came as rumor of a turkey-like bird occurs in the steep canyons on the foothill of the western Andes. Some remained stored for decades before a researcher would pick them up and inquired about these poorly documented specimens.

After we got back to the cars everyone pulled chairs out and sat down for a cup of tea (I had neglected to bring some but was not to go without thanks to the hospitality of these fine people). A passing raptor was, depending on who you asked, certainly or probably a Brown Goshawk. Not that we lingered to look, we were on a mission.
