The killing of Cecil was equated with murder, a moral crime rather than a symptom of a ecological problem. Animal rights is concerned with individual animals, and their suffering and welfare. I’m not unsympathetic to concerns about animal welfare, really. So we do the best we can with what we have. To a point.

My post last week where I defended game hunting as a conservation tool has, unaccountably, encountered a certain amount of push back. I will address two of them in the new year, namely, “Is hunting moral at all?” Who would have thought that a post defending hunting game in general would have not been universally acclaimed?
