These are not subject monkeys, but they are part of the breeding colony. The last of nine monkeys that escaped from the Oregon National Primate Research Center in Hillsboro was found at 2 p.m. The last monkey was found on the primate center campus. Hillsboro police helped find the final monkey.

In December, the United States Department of Agriculture issued a warning letter to the primate center for violations of the Animal Welfare Act, which regulates treatment of many commercial animals from pet kittens to laboratory guinea pigs. And the center added training and banned one researcher from animal contact in response.

A Menlo Park research facility Monday refused to allow a humane society representative to check up on a monkey that bit a female lab worker the day before. received a very minor injury to the finger, was treated onsite by emergency response personnel and then at a local medical facility," SRI said in a statement released Monday.

I had never heard of the use of ferrets in medical research though. A national physicians group has filed a federal complaint against the University of Washington, saying its use of ferrets to train medical residents in emergency procedures on babies and children violates a federal animal-welfare law. News to me.

Former Baywatch star and model Pamela Anderson has accused one of India's most prestigious research centres of animal cruelty, urging it to retire decades-old test monkeys and adopt humane practices.
