The views were filled with scrubby, low vegetation, dramatic mountains, sheep herds, and sheep herders. The herders are nomadic groups that move sheep from place to place, staying in brick structures that dot the landscape. We traveled maybe ten miles on the only road before turning back around. Birding was tougher.

Nyala, Southern Africa’s Stunning Antelope

By this I mean applying the term antelope to cover all of the family Bovidae, which would include the sheep, goats and ox. It isn’t just tourists and game hunters that like them though; Painted Wolves are also big fans, as they are easier to bring down than the larger species but have more meat to eat than a small duiker.

Call B for Birder or Waterfowling East Anglia

In my native Serbia, I’ve observed this species in winter only once, while here in East Anglia every site held one. Next were the wet meadows of Tunstall Marshes (cover photo), where grazing sheep awaited us and, among them, Mute Swans. Still, the tide was not nearly as high as we hoped for and all the birds were quite far away.
