A few states still have no checklists at all: Nebraska , Minnesota , Iowa , Kentucky , West Virginia , Mississippi , and Alabama. For example, as to checklists, Kentucky ranks 37th in the U.S. For example, my list of the Top 25 National Wildlife Refuges for birding includes an excellent location in Minnesota ( Minnesota Valley NWR ).

I haven’t even been to all of the best national wildlife refuges for birding. Lifers included Cape May, Tennessee, Blackburnian, Chestnut-sided, Blackpoll, Kentucky, Canada, and Blue-winged warblers. I particularly enjoy birding national wildlife refuges, so I try to include at least one on each trip.

For example, as to checklists, Kentucky ranks 38th in the U.S. Even the nation’s capital has been ignored.
