Either way, it was a heck of a sight and another example of why Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge is the best place in New York City to see amazing wildlife spectacles. The homeowner, Fred Jordan, has been hosting visiting birders who heard of the bird through word-of-mouth since November. from left to right Fred, Mike, Isaac, Andrew, Gene (in back), Tom Though it was an absurdly long trip and the ratio of birding to driving was not ideal the twitch was well worth it.

That’s what you do with other game, right? Fish and Wildlife Service tells states when they may propose a hunting season on cranes, and has ultimate jurisdiction over whether the states get their seasons. So we can squawk at the state wildlife departments all we want, but the USFWS has the final say. Street, N.W.
