I have been back from Eilat, Israel for more than a week but still find myself dreaming about birding in the desert. Migration is always cool to watch but at Eilat, Israel, it is truly a spectacle to behold. In southern Israel, I think of the Hoopoe and bee-eaters. Nothing like this in Israel.

Looking for terns, White-eyed Gulls , and other seabirds from North Beach, Eilat, Israel during Champions of the Flyway. Yes, we have a good deal of protected, accessible tropical forest but what we don’t have is an immediate way to lower temperatures and increase the rains. It can’t be any time in spring, though.

Maybe those should be protected too? Given that the Black Kite is politely described as an “opportunistic hunter” – which includes the fact that they are more likely to scavenge than most other raptors – the name choice of the company protecting the world’s cyber ecosystem is a bit weird.

Poor Britons – Brexit did not protect them from being invaded by birds from the continent. This is not really an option at Nanhui though. The third raptor of the month was the Black-winged Kite. The fourth and last was the Crested Honey buzzard – a beautiful male.
