This put Coffee in an impossible position - he needed to rehome the pythons because they were illegal in Florida, but the FWC was threatening to face him with additional criminal charges if he did so. Reptiles that are not treated ethically simply do not make good pets. Their behavior is very, very dependent upon how they are treated.

In its first ever independent operation since its inception last year, the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau has unearthed an illegal pet trade racket arresting one and seizing four live Indian Tent turtles from Mahipalpur area here. It sure looks like India is taking wildlife crime investigation seriously.

It’s easy to choke it with food while you’re feeding it and chances are good that you’d raise the chick like a pet and you’d end up with an adult bird that doesn’t know what its predators are and seek humans for food and mating…aka an unreleasable bird.

Unfortunately, Hen Harriers die disproportionally near British Grouse moors – most likely killed illegally by people hunting grouse for sports ( source ). On the other hand, in the West, mice, and rats are also kept as pets, maybe with the same logic. Possibly a survivor of siblicide (which would make it a killer, right?).
