Very little information was available at the time, so we hired a car and off we went, following the few tips we had managed to gather but mostly our noses. Here local hunters had known about the colony and for generations had been harvesting the birds by simply picking the adults off their nests during the breeding season.

Just yesterday the FBI was able to complete its evidence gathering and clearing of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, returning the refuge back to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and freeing the seventeen refuge employees to go back to work.
