The various national versions of Ducks Unlimited are mostly an outgrowth of sports hunting. I have the photos of a standing White-faced Ibis next to wading Northern Pintails , Northern Shovelers , and American White Pelicans , to prove this.) This is only my second sighting of the species on Lake Cuitzeo. But I did both.

At first, the road is paved, but as soon as the tarmac ends, the tracks become decorated by hunters in orange vests. It’s the boar hunting season. The soil is disturbed by foraging boars (and there is not a single shot from those hunters). Among them are Dalmatian Pelicans , so big and lazy. Enough of the mountains.
