Trophy hunters simply enjoy stepping on their heads. Popular hunting magazines make animal rights groups like they're the bad guys. I hate when animals are killed needlessly simply to be stuffed or their heads hung on the wall. It seems both political parties do nothing for animals. What are we to do?

This is far from a novel idea: contributors to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology receive Living Bird magazine, which is also freely available online to everyone. * * *. But as far as I can tell, nobody advocates for birders, so lands are opened to hunting and fishing , but not birding, photography, and other non-consumptive uses.

Hunting: You may have noticed that the Written Species Accounts include a section on hunting. I am a city girl and until I became a birder my contact with hunting was limited to occasionally seeing dead deer on the tops of cars in upstate New York. So–not a fan of hunting. I was really taken aback when I saw this.
