What remains of their range is currently protected as the Pastures of Great Bustard Special Nature Reserve, but in the last several years there are only a dozen birds left, and only one adult male among them. Not the strictly protected bustards, but Red Foxes, Brown Hares, Pheasants , as well as Hooded Crows and Rooks.

The last beaver in the area was killed ten miles to the east – near Pancevo around the year 1900, but, reintroduced some dozen years ago, there are some 150 of them in the country nowadays. But, published in 1921 in Budapest, Hungary, it was written in Hungarian. Yet, I never heard the splash of a beaver tail when it dives.
