Why isnt hunting for sport not banned yet?

Why are such activitys not of bye gone era where wildlife wasnt as respected as it is now? Getting a kick out of one beings suffering(that never did anything bad to you and even if it did it never has human motive for it). Our awarness should make us stop bad trends but why isnt this one oppoesed more?
