Its amazing to me that there are still places on earth where wildlife is blissfully unafraid of humans. One of the sheltered bays on Isla Isabel. Lastly, due to its previous inaccessibility to humans and the absence of natural predators, the wildlife is bizarrely unafraid of humans, allowing for a truly unforgettable experience.

Multitudes, hundreds of Brown Pelicans and Terns–Least, Common, Foster’s, Sandwich, Royal, and Caspian. They did flush eventually, but not because of humans. Many birders left at the first drops, but I crowded with a few other birders under the shelter of the volunteer kiosk. I imagined walking right up to them.

It provides shelter for many songbirds and water-associated animals, including the river otter, turtles, beaver, American pelicans, ospreys, and migratory songbirds. The riparian habitat along the Sacramento River is critically important for fish, migratory birds, plants, and river system health.
