But I want to be able to argue about it intelligently, citing science, not just morals. Apparently, there is a lot of argument out there than animal experimentation is even good for humans. A drug may work on an animal, but fail miserably on a human. Drugs are not always predictable from human to human even.

For Engber, who dispassionately describes procedures most of the time, the "advances" in the medical care of humans are all well worth what he and other vivisectionists do to dogs and other sentient nonhumans. By the end of my time as researcher, I was performing behavioral experiments on humans. It "guarantees humane treatment?"

Why is it that so many progressives think it's silly to accord moral status to animals? Then again, progressives think abortion is merely a medical procedure, devoid of moral significance. In fact, as anyone with any sense knows, it destroys human life, depriving fetuses of activities, experiences, projects, and enjoyments.

To inflict death or pain on animals for scientific or medical research is wrong morally, and ought to be prohibited. They may be killed in order to protect the health of humans (and other animals) if they are infected with a serious disease and cannot be quarantined. Animals cannot give consent.

They have the best food money can buy, climate-controlled shelter, comfortable bedding, ample exercise, liberty to move about, toys to play with, and medical care (including control of parasites). Inequality per se is morally irrelevant. Now let's focus on human beings. Some, such as my niece's Tag, are utterly spoiled.

The medical journal Lancet recently published findings showing that children who are not adequately nourished in the first five years of life sometimes never catch up to their peers. It’s appalling that anyone would think that a diet based on a dubious morality would build a human infant. Children need protein. George Mazzei St.
