Claim 1: A gorilla can definitely kill any animal below 400 lbs easily and still put up a good fight for those above that weight class The truth: Forest leopards in Africa are known to kill gorillas, and while rare, the current record is skewed heavily in favor of the leopard coming out the better in these encounters.

which was a comparative look at apparent, visible, often in your face biomass we observe when we as diurnal primates look around us. For instance, assume (and I will NOT stand by this number, it is just one I’ve heard here and there) that kitty cats in America kill 50,000,000 birds a year. Raptors either. But this is problematic.

Further, did those who reacted so strongly to Harambe’s killing go home and serve meat to their children? It is estimated that due to conflicts with humans, the bushmeat and body parts trade, disease and habitat destruction, large mammals in Africa may be extinct by the end of this century. Finally, what of the audience?

There is a profound difference between what Sea Shepherd does and what the Animal Liberation Front does, but there are also similarities, and those similarities increase in number if a direct action by the ALF (or anyone else) is an open rescue and therefore a direct defense of sentient nonhumans being attacked by humans.

In November 2008, a virus killed a 15-month-old Asian elephant calf named Malti. The zoo blamed human error for the deaths, saying it didn’t have the expertise to manage the fish and that a lack of dissolved oxygen led to the deaths. They were a part of the zoo’s breeding program for the rare birds.

From what I recall, chimpanzees share at least 95 percent of human DNA, although the number that floats around the most is 98.6 If chimpanzees have consciousness, if they are capable of abstractions, do they not have what until now has been described as "human rights"?
