Luckily, The Shelter Pet Project hopes to change this! Here is one of the great PSAs that The Shelter Pet Project has out. It is such a sad statistic.

Rock & Rawhide , a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that aims to increase adoptions for dogs and cats in shelters by providing toys and other items that serve as a form of distraction therapy, reducing the stress and noise levels. While many animal shelters already struggle on a day-to-day basis to care for the millions of unwanted animals that are dropped at their door, the numbers have grown to an almost unmanageable degree over the last few years. The culprit for this surge in animal homelessness is a testimonial to these trying times: human homelessness.

Dharamsala Animal Rescue is the only animal shelter in the province, giving lifesaving vaccinations to animals for as little as $1. They also humanely treat sick and injured animals. This is why their work is so important.

Like every dog they are vulnerable to homelessness and mistreatment. Many shelters do not intake pit bulls at all, and many of the shelters that do find themselves limited in their intake by state regulations or their own policies that dictate pit bull capacity. You can have this done at a vet’s office or at a shelter.
