A close encounter with a couple of White Rhinos gave me a good opportunity to get a proper look at some Red-billed Ox-peckers Buphagus Erythrorhynchus that often accompany them. The Black Rhino is a browser with a hooked upper lip. In fact it is widely thought that they prefer blood to bugs. Look for the eponymous wide lips.

A little further, there’s a family group of Savannah Elephants with two two-year olds. Those that crossed the road first are waiting for the rest of the group at the other side. We are nearing the waterhole, and see the large oval shadow in the darkness: that White Rhino cow with a calf.
