Grey-crowned Babblers are usually in family groups of eight and are easily heard as you travel along the track. Two distant Pied Honeyeaters. Velliia panduriformis.

The Behn River was not flowing in July this year, but the small pools of water still attracted numerous bird species and the freshwater crocodiles were concentrated in the deeper pools. Even the smallest pools of water were providing food and although there were not large numbers of many species there was a huge variety. Agile Wallaby.

Patience will get you good looks, and there is something very special about seeing a representative of a group so strongly associated with the almost mythic New Guinea. There were also a bunch of common species such as Orange-footed Scrubfowl and Australian Brush-turkeys (both species of megapode), Red-browed Firetails and Willie Wagtails.
