Each of these habitats attracts its own group of species. The Yellow-green Vireo is another of those rare birds that winter in South America but only travels north as far as Mexico to breed. This sort of biozone mixing can create a tremendous richness of species. That sighting was, in fact, only a few miles from mine.

Lamb, who surveyed the birds of western Mexico from 1932-1955, and whose lists have been posted on eBird in recent years. They breed in northernmost Canada and Alaska, and winter in Patagonia in southernmost South America. I saw a group of six medium-large, long-billed shorebirds feeding in several inches of water.
