The prize for presentation goes to the folks who delivered this very small opossum to Michelle Wellard in Philadelphia.

Penguins, Parrots and Wine on Matiu / Somes Island

As I have explained before these islands are the best place for a lot of the birding here because they are more easily protected from introduced mammals which wreck such havoc on the wildlife here. Across the water is the Miramar Peninsula, where the Hobbit is presently being filmed. I’ll work on that.

Royal Shags and Tricky Parakeets: Birding Queen Charlotte Sound

In the early morning out on the water there were plenty of Fluttering Shearwaters and Australasian Gannets, and close to a salmon farm we found New Zealand Fur Seals as well as Pied Shags, Little Shags and Spotted Shags (I can only assume that kiwis just like calling all cormorants shags because they are all five years old).

It's too bad that Latimer's presentation is so obnoxious, as even when he raises what might be valid points, he makes you want to disagree with him. And one of that handful is the environment. He clearly hasn't heard of the low-hanging fruit concept. As for the ethic being cynical, I don't understand that so I cannot comment.
