An Amazing Boat Ride from Santa Cruz Island to Ventura Harbor

Our time on the island was spent looking at birds, exploring, picnicking, throwing rocks in the water, and admiring a very cooperative Santa Cruz Island Fox. It took me awhile, but I managed to get on quite a few, especially when the boat slowed down to go check out some Humpback Whales and a huge number of Common Dolphins.

Mammals of South Asia (Lynx Edicions)

Right next to the world famous Opera House is the the Sydney Botanical Gardens, a good place to see Sulphur-crested Cockatoos , Banded Rails and large roosting groups of Grey-headed Flying-foxes. Along with Humpback Whales you have the chance of seeing Antipodean Albatrosses , Wilson’s Storm-petrels and Providence Petrels.

Tongatapu and ‘Eua; Birding Southern Tonga

The hotel we stayed on was on the shore, from which you could watching passing seabirds, including serene White Terns , as well as summering Humpback Whales! Tonga is famous for its whales, and there are opportunities to swim with them in the northern islands. We also saw Pacific Flying Foxes, which we had apparently disturbed.
