I found these beauties at Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge, one of the many locations the Black-necked Stilt breeds in the California Central Valley (map courtesy of Terry Sohl at South Dakota Birds ). Black-necked Stilts will wade in water of any depth up to the height of their breast.

Jochen the swallows have arrived at NYC at Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge too. All conditions are perfect here in central South Dakota for the waterfowl travelers. Fish & Wildlife comes in response to a lawsuit brought by the Center for Biological Diversity. A perfect shot. Have a nice weekend.

With Wyoming and South Dakota in our rear view mirror, we look toward Colorado, and a hot spot I have been anxious to visit. We took a break and tried our hands at fishing, with no luck what so ever, but the many Osprey over head all seem to be able to find fish. Guess I was just not holding my mouth right?
