I am so sick of the feral cat colonies that infest so many locations that I like to bird. And while I am sick of the cat colonies I am even more sick of the deluded people who believe that by feeding feral cats they are somehow helping them. They get hit by cars, suffer from parasites, predated upon by coyotes, and die from disease.

I know on some level, I think that’s something almost all of us can get behind…no one, except the most callous and cold-hearted of the human race things its fine to torture animals, or deny that they are capable of pain and suffering. There is nothing abstract or controversial about this.

Rehabbers see reptiles in glue traps, gulls entangled in fishing line, raccoons used as target practice, raptors dying from rodenticides, and songbirds shredded by domestic cats … cats like Puck. Statistics come to life in the suffering of one dove or one mockingbird, the one needlessly stricken and dying for the sake of a personal choice.
