A Great Egret , a few Pygmy Cormorants and, by the middle of the Danube, about a hundred Greylag Geese. Two hundred yards further, the first Common Goldeneye and Smew started to appear and, while counting Smew and geese, a Great Bittern took flight from one stand of reeds to another, right in front of us.

On Dominance and Animal Birth Control

We are a far bigger problem on this planet than the (over)population of feral cats, elephants, Canada geese, or any other creature we "manage" or want to manage, "humanely" or otherwise. And when the option is rounding them up and killing them, TNR looks like an especially attractive option. And this is one of them.

Fairy Pitta in Australia-a sad story

There were a lot of birds about at this early hour and we were very surprised to see seven Magpie Geese fly by. After a very dry start to the year there had been no Magpie Geese observed locally at all. Sadly it had recently been killed and was lying in the garden bed beside the path. We were absolutely devastated.

Come@Me: Don’t Mourn for Extinct Birds

The causes were the usual reasons for island extinction—deforestation by both humans and invasive plants that crowded out native plants, hunting, and invasive rats, mongoose, monkeys, and, of course, feral cats. A foot deep by some accounts, it killed what life was left in the forest. They have a hard enough time with Canada Geese.
