I' m concerned about Maple Farm Sanctuary , whose founders are two of the seven subjects in our new film , and I was wondering if you'd be willing to reach out through your blog to let people know that the sanctuary is in a financial tight spot right now. The sanctuary runs on a very modest budget of approximately $55,000 year.

While the Humane Society was pretty happy with Vilsack as Obama's pick for the Department of Agriculture, the Farm Sanctuary is wary. Bauer is the president and co-founder of the Farm Sanctuary. This is a December 18 post from Gene Bauer's blog pointing out some concerns about Vilsack.

It looks like they have some great workshops with people like Gene Bauer from Farm Sanctuary and Nicole Pollata from the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF.). Tags: humane society conferences. The conference is to be held from July 23-26 in Washington, DC. Someday, I hope to attend one of these conferences.

Does he own the human members of his "family?" Does he really equate the cows with the human sentients in his family? Can the humans come and go as they please? Are the humans providing Brian with something he is profiting from (maybe hard work, he'd say), and when they stop he will kill them? What does that look like?
